DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
Youth Impact India is leveraging proven, inclusive, and resilient approaches to transform foundational numeracy for children in India’s deepest hinterlands.
Its model is the Indian adaptation of ConnectEd, where trained facilitators coordinate with the government school teachers and select students from primary grade and tutor them through regular 1:1 phone calls focused on foundational numeracy. Instruction is tailored to each child’s learning level and reinforced by actively involving caregivers in the learning journey.
After every tutoring call, facilitators record assessment details and track progress, share the insights with teachers, ensuring continuous feedback loops. Students are engaged across multiple cycles in an academic year, strengthening retention and learning gains. The critical feature is that it will complement the government scheme, which mandates teachers to conduct tutoring calls. It makes the effort inherently scalable.
The founding team comprises Rohan and Subash, who together bring deep expertise in government partnerships, education program design, and system-level reforms. Their combined experience spans large-scale program delivery, data and technology integration, and on-ground implementation in collaboration with state governments. This unique blend of strategic leadership and grassroots execution equips the team to drive evidence-based innovations at scale.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
In Mumbai, a dynamic metropolis and the entertainment and financial capital of India, 41.3% of the population of 19 million reside in slums. The largest of these slums is Dharavi, a locality in the heart of Mumbai, with a staggering 2000 people residing per acre. Many of the public hospitals in the area are overcrowded and unreliable in their services , leading residents of the slums to face a lack of access to affordable, quality healthcare, despite their proximity to world-renowned health infrastructure - echoing a theme seen in many urban slums across India. This leads to residents contracting diseases that are left undiagnosed and untreated in spite the fact that some of these conditions are easily-correctable, easily-identifiable and cheap to treat.
88% of Indian households now have mobile phones, including 77% of households in the bottom quintile. Due to the widespread presence of mobile phones, India is predicted to have the highest adoption rate for mobile health or “mHealth” technologies
Sehak has created creating a free, call-based service that provides an accessible
diagnosis for the 4 easily correctable health conditions targeted, connects users to vetted health facilities that can treat the diagnosed condition, and regularly engages with the users.
The service will target 4 pecific easily-correctable, identifiable and cheap-to-treat health conditions: obstetric fistula, cataracts, clubfoot and cervical cancer.
Users will sign up for our service by placing an initial missed call to our number. They will then receive an immediate automatic call back, and the automated response system (IVR) will prompt the first-time caller to provide their basic demographic information, including their gender, age, location, and preferred language, as well as whether they are married and/or have young children. We will then store this information in our subscriber database and the subscriber will start receiving our regular text messages via SMS to dispense essential and timely health information.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
In the absence of electricity, homes frequently turn to kerosene-based light sources for illuminating their homes. The largest use of subsidized kerosene in the world is in India with around 380 million in 2011 using kerosene as a primary lighting source.
EnEff (Energy Efficiency) will improve access to solar lamps to families in Rajasthan, India through a unique distribution network, a consumer-oriented finance scheme, and a focus on large-scale skill development of individuals living in rural areas with a unique referral scheme.
EnEff will first hold meetings with local farmers, women's groups, local leaders, and small business owners to better understand energy and product needs in target communities. Distribution of solar lamps will be initiated through gram panchayats (locally elected governing bodies) which are active and respected by the local population in order to build public trust in the product and its benefits. The Solar products will also be distributed through NGOs and Village Local Entrepreneurs to end consumers. Distribution channels will include a referral scheme in which every successful referral will earn the referee cash back on the initial value of their purchase amount. To benefit from this scheme, a customer will have a short compulsory briefing from the EnEff team in servicing and sales, indirectly creating a skilled workforce and a trained sales team at minimal cost to the company. Distribution will be coupled with a broad marketing and awareness raising campaign.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
India's peri-urban and rural populations are not benefiting from existing life-improving technologies - such as solar lanterns, water filters, and smokeless cook stoves - because the local retail outlets they depend on are disconnected from these essential goods. Essmart is a distribution company operating in Tamil Nadu that connects local shops with a catalog of quality, affordable, essential products, providing marketing, distribution, and after-sales service.
Ninety percent of Indian households primarily shop in an estimated 15 million small, low-margin retail shops. However, these retail shops do not sell esesntial technologies because they do not know about them, where to get them, or how to service them if they break. Essmart connects a catalog of high-quality goods with proven demand to local shops, where trusted buying relationships exist.
Essmart's model has three parts. 1) Aggregate a catalog of high-quality existing products and build relationships with suppliers. Sales Executives then demonstrate our catalog to local shops and end users through marketing campaigns. 2) Essmart's local Sales Executives build distribution networks to villages by creating an Essmart-branded section in local shops, leaving our catalog in shops, and fulfilling orders. 3) Should any product break, Essmart provides training and maintenance services and facilitates manufacturers' warranties. This ensures that users continue to benefit from the products and shops need not take on the burden of returns.
PILOT AND SCALING GOALS
- Work from 10 aggregate distribution centers by the end of year 1
- Sell 16,200 products by the end of year 1
- Support 5,000 local Sales Executives by the end of year 2

A platform using vioce, SMS, web and smartphone applications that allow the public to verify the quality and completion of municipal projects carried out by contractors.
Learn more about the Transparency Challenge and how citizen reporting platforms can be used to hold government officials accountable and reduce corruption.
DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
Most public services of the government such as garbage collection, traffic light repair, and street light maintenance in many parts of the world are outsourced to third party service providers. While third party contractors send in daily reports regarding the completion of their duties, the government has no way of monitoring the accuracy of these reports.
Social Cops allows citizens to easily report issues via their mobile phones and the internet. A seamless process (compliant filing can be accomplished in one minute) combined with google map and GPS integration allows Social Cops to identify the relevant authority and forward the complaint to the authority which can view it on a customized dashboard. A council then receives two feeds: one from citizens and one from the third party service provider. The citizen reports are used to verify the accountability of reports submitted and then easily respond and engage with citizens via the platform, notifying them when the complaint is solved.

Furthermore, it provides a solution to the common issue of insufficient physical change, in which customers receive their change back in the form of candy rather than cash, a common occurrence in many developing countries.
Pulse offers an electronic system that is more convenient for beneficiaries. Importantly, since the service is not tied to any particular carrier, it works on any mobile phone, and enables instant access to the service for all users.
The customer experience: customer deposits leftover change or surplus income by buying a Pulse prepaid scratch card or leaving change with the shop owner and requesting an electronic deposit into the Pulse account; shop owner and customer receive an sms confirmation of the transaction with current balance; customer spends or withdraws their savings at any vendor in the Pulse network when needed.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
Street food is an integral part of Indian cities. Unofficial government estimates state that there are over a hundred million street food vendors in India. However, lack of infrastructure and awareness about food safety and handling among street food vendors makes it a significant contributor to food borne diseases. Through CleanTap, the organization aims to provide an easy, portable, DIY solution to the sanitation infrastructure challenge and combine it with an effective social marketing strategy to promote behavior change.
A Tippy Tap is an easy, portable, low-cost device that encourages hard washing and saves water. It can be made with scraps of readily available local material. The apparatus involves a container that holds water with a hole on tap where the water flows out from. The flow of water is controlled by a foot lever. Their design of the Tippy Tap for food carts focuses heavily on portability. On average, a tippy tap involves a $1 investment per person to promote hand washing. It has been successfully deployed as a standalone product in rural areas of India.

vChalk

Remedial education and progress tracking.
Learn more about the Flipped Classroom Challenge and why new education models, like flipping the classroom or deskilling a class curriculum, offer a solution to the vast teacher shortages in the developing world.
DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
vChalk offers remedial educaiton and progress tracking services to affordable private schools in semi- and per-urban India. The problem is the inability to support all children in India with diverse learning needs in keeping up with the formal curriculum and in preventing them from falling behind. This inefficiency translates into poor learning outcomes for millions of young learners in India, many of them first generation, who are enrolled in primary school but have not achieved the minimum benchmarks for learning.
Remedial programs that help students catch up have been, for years, directed only toward government schools. As affordable private schools spread to meet the growing demand for education in India, vChalk fills an important learning gap by distributing the proven Balsakhi (now called Read India) remedial education model to these schools. We help mitigate their problem by offering a bundle of two services: in-school remedial programs start and support (targeted at children who do not master basic numeracy and literacy skills) and learning progress tracking service (targeted at children who are subscribed to the remedial class).
The remedial program would look like this: a female Community Instructor who has completed at least 12th grade and who is motivated to work with children (ideally from the parents' community) works with lower perfornace students in 3rd and 4th grade for two hours each day. The instructor goes through a two week training program before teaching and receives further on the job training during the year from vChalk's Monitoring Manager. The intervention runs for two years at the school. vChalk's tracking system of children's learning progress is a focus of the project and makes longitudinal data available for each student.
