The Sumba model recognises that energy access, reduced domestic workload and increased incomes must go hand in hand. Sumba works with local communities to value-add to their commodities using solar powered Productive Use Centres. The final component is supporting entrepreneurs by purchasing products and selling them on to the sustainable tourism industry.
Sumba Solutions was intiated by Sarah Hobgen and Rodney Parish in 2018. Rodney serves as the company Director and Sarah manages the company.

The Sollys Energy business model involves the recruitment of sales agents located in the semi-urban areas of Lilongwe, Malawi. The sales agents are local shopkeepers and their customers may pay for the lanterns in installments through them, or through mobile money applications. The Sollys Energy team is a collection of young, unique, energetic individuals with diverse skill sets, and a common goal - eradicating energy poverty.
Sollys Energy was founded by Martin Masiya, Gift Bwanali, Nithaar Kaisi and Dickson Mervin Kapichi. All were students at the University of Malawi, The Polytechnic.

REFAN’s model is based on distribution of solar lamps to households using a network of Microfinance Banks (MFBs), Microfinance Institutions (MFI) and Smallholder farmers’ cooperatives. To increase access, solar lanterns will be available on both a cash and credit basis.
REFAN was set up in August 2020 by Asongo Abraham, a Microfinance Expert, based in Yola, Nigeria. Fardeen Dodo of American University of Nigeria works with REFAN as Director of Strategy, Monitoring and Evaluation. Mrs. Grace Pius, a qualified Accountant, works with REFAN as Director of Finance.

Relief to Farmers (RTF) aims to improve the lives of low-income smallholder maize farmers through the distribution of Purdue Improved Crops Storage (PICS) bags in the Ejura Sekyeredumasi District in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. In the current practice, enterprises focus on selling local bags, which are less effective. Through micro-lenders, RTF will distribute affordable PICS loans to poor smallholder maize FBOS who need it the most and be required to pay loans at flexible periods.
Relief to Farmers was founded by Benjamin Amoah Boateng and Abdulai Abdul-Jalil who all have vast experience in the maize and PIC distribution chain.

Launching in Katete District the Mothers for Life-eMTCT project interventions will build on comprehensive integrated HIV and ANC services at the health facility level, adding evidence-based strategies in the community and at individual level to support adherence to and retention in ART. These include: (1) mobile health (mHealth) short message service (SMS) with two-way communication to convey health messages and help retain HIV positive pregnant women in existing ART services, and (2) Community-Based Volunteers who conduct home visits to support eMTCT services.

Through empowering traditional birth attendants, Koi Koi Stories increases community access to the lifesaving misoprostol drug to reduce post partum haemorrhage, the leading cause of maternal mortality among the rural underserved women of Moroto District, Uganda.
Moroto District has a very high maternal mortality rate at 420 deaths per 100,000 live births. Due to long distances to health facilities, most women die from postpartum hemorrhage in the communities as they try to deliver under the care of unskilled traditional birth attendants. Our model seeks to train traditional birth attendants on the appropriate use of misoprostol (an approved low cost uterotonic drug), and create linkages for them with the health facilities to allow them access the drug supplies and appropriately and timely administer these drugs at community level to save the lives of mothers and their newborns.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
SoBz Energy will utilize a network of boda (motorcycle) riders to distribute solar lights to hard to reach communities. The Venture will identify the boda riders, train them in solar marketing, functioning, and simple troubleshooting and roll them out to sell solar lamps to the rural customers. The venture will also carry out customer screening, especially of those buying on credit, to determine credit readiness, and then determine repayment method. The venture also will conduct field visits to customers to assess their experience with the lamps, gather impact stories, and issue repayment reminders. The venture will initially operate in Mubende district in Western Uganda, with plan to scale to the neighboring communities.
SoBz Energy’s co-founders all have experience in Uganda’s renewable energy sector. Noah Ssempijja, the Managing Director, worked with Fenix International as a Customer Field Support Manager. Florence Nabukenya, the Customer Support Manager, previously supported Fenix International’s customer call center in Uganda. The Nutri You model seeks to provide smallholder farmers in Busia County, Kenya, with affordable access to a low-cost drip irrigation system through a bundled low-cost irrigation package. This system will allow farmers to irrigate their crops all year round, relieving them of their dependence on rain, thus enabling them to increase local food production. The project has adopted a pay-as-you-go (PAYGO) finance model that offers farmers a micro-leasing option to acquire the system upfront with just a 30% down payment. The farmers then get as two month grace period before continuing to make slow payments over the course of 6 months.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
Adolescent Health Champions cultivates a network of youth health educators (Champions) in Mumbai, India who lead the health education process in their schools and communities. We use an innovative, evidence-based peer education model that leverages the voices, talent, and leadership of adolescents themselves. Our approach provides adolescents with the knowledge, dialogue, support, and prevention strategies they need to navigate their health needs during this pivotal transition to adulthood.

DISTRIBUTION MODEL INNOVATION
CORD’s Positive Escort Project aims to prevent mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV by training and engaging experienced women living with HIV to follow up and ensure 150 HIV+ pregnant women complete Antiretroviral Therapy (ART).
HIV+ positive women who have experienced PMTCT services and maintain close links with the community will be trained and engaged as Positive Escorts to facilitate community-facility continuum of care for PMTCT activities. They will provide pre-test group education sessions, one-on-one and couples counseling, individualized education, psychosocial support, appointment reminders and follow-up services to ensure women adhere to treatment. They will also be role models whose support and presence will reassure the newly diagnosed that HIV related challenges can be successfully overcome.
